Valeggio Spring: Parco Sigurtà, Borghetto, and Castle Attract Visitors

Spring has exploded in Valeggio with all its colors and charming atmospheres. Parco Sigurtà, Borghetto, and Monte Ogheri are the most popular destinations for those looking to enjoy a Sunday surrounded by nature: flowers, lush, gleaming grass, the Mincio River, and the castle that the Pro loco has opened to visitors.

“On Sunday, we tested the upcoming season,” says Marileno Brentegani, president of the Pro loco, with satisfaction. “Thanks to the beautiful day, we had thousands of people in Valeggio, at Parco Sigurtà and the antique market. Of course, it’s important to find ventilation solutions as soon as possible and to resolve the parking issues.

We have stunning locations that we must enhance and promote more and more: Parco Sigurtà is unique in the world, as is Borghetto. We are also opening the castle every weekend for visits, creating a triad of attractions that few towns can boast of.

Parco Sigurtà and Visiting Modalities

Parco Sigurtà (open until November) was literally overwhelmed on Sunday, yet thanks to its vast lawns, flowery paths, shaded wooded areas, it managed to provide visitors with what they sought: serenity.

Additionally, the decision to leave cars outside the park in a large parking lot served by a free shuttle bus to the entrance contributed to a positive experience. The only allowed modes of transportation are electric trains that run along the 7-kilometer panoramic Itinerary of the Delights in half an hour (free for children, €3,000 lire for adults), bicycles, “bighes” (local carts), and electric golf carts that can be rented at the entrance.

Historical Origin and Management of Parco Sigurtà

The Parco-Giardino Sigurtà, covering fifty hectares on the last slopes of the morainic hills, originates from the garden of Villa Maffei, which in 1859 served as Napoleon III’s headquarters.

It was Carlo Sigurtà who transformed the garden into a world-unique park in 40 years of dedicated care. Today, his work is carried on by his nephew Enzo Inga Sigurtà and his children, Magda and Giuseppe.
