Valeggio’s Smeraldo Theatre Transforms into Vienna’s Golden Hall for Epiphany Concert
For an evening, the Smeraldo Theatre in Valeggio will transform into the famous Musikverein in Vienna. Or rather, into the renowned “Golden Hall” of the Staatsoper, from which the Wiener Philharmoniker broadcast their New Year’s concert worldwide. In Valeggio, Strauss’s music will arrive on the Epiphany evening, at 9 PM, at the end of the Christmas events organized by the Pro loco in collaboration with the cultural department.
Details of the concert and participants
“It will be a concert that re-evokes the Austrian charm of the Vienna performance,” explains Fiorella Antonioli, president of the Associazione Amadeus which has been organizing classical music concerts for years, and a member of the Pro loco. “The ‘Franco Faccio’ orchestra, composed of about forty members, mostly from Verona, and conducted by Nicola Guerini, will perform for this evening.
However, for this occasion, there will also be foreign musicians as guests. The violin section comes from the Saint Petersburg orchestra.
The musical program and Viennese traditions
The pieces performed will be the most famous of the Austrian composer’s repertoire. “The very well-known Blue Danube will surely be included,” continues Fiorella Antonioli, “but all the most renowned waltzes and polkas will be performed. And in full respect of Viennese tradition, both the conductor and the orchestra members will mime the famous antics we see every year at the New Year’s concert.”
Reasons for the choice and past events
The decision to hold the event on Epiphany evening was made with a specific purpose. “We want to close the Christmas festivals with a spectacular show,” clarifies Fiorella Antonioli, “which started in early December with the ‘Aperitivi in musica’, continued with the ‘Medieval Curtain’ event in the square, and then with the sacred hymns concert in the church on December 30.”
Moreover, for the upcoming year, Fiorella Antonioli promises, on behalf of the Pro loco, interesting initiatives. One of which is the preview of the show ‘If a Rose Could Be Born One Day’, dedicated to Fabrizio De André, scheduled for February 10, featuring 12 musicians, dancers, and choreographers who will perform the best songs of the Genoese singer-songwriter.
