Valle Sabbia Road Improvements Boost Tourism and Connectivity
Hillside roads and tourism development remain a priority in the Valle Sabbia area. An agreement has been signed between the Provincia di Brescia (Brescia Provincial Administration), the Comunità Montana di Valle Sabbia (Valle Sabbia Mountain Community), and the Comune di Bagolino (Municipality of Bagolino), for a funding of 900 million lire over three years, aimed at improving the Bagolino-Maniva intercity road, from the Destrone bridge to the piazzale of the Maniva locality.
The project has already been approved, and the tender for the first lot is expected by the end of April, with work beginning by summer. The works will concern the first section of the road, which runs from the Destrone bridge to the “Casina Cavra” area.
The expenses for the first lot will be allocated as follows: 150 million lire covered by the Province, 70 million by the Mountain Community, and the remaining 80 million by the Municipality of Bagolino. The next two lots will cover the sections from “Casina Cavra” to “Fabus”, and from “Fabus” to the Maniva parking area.
The interventions will include scarification of the road surface followed by laying a “non-woven fabric” to prevent surface water from surfacing. Subsequently, “macadam” will be applied to strengthen the road, along with a binder substrate, and finally, a fine asphalt overlay.
Where the springs intersect the road, water regulation works will be carried out through underground piping. Where not feasible, reinforced concrete =pourings= will be made to support the new road, facilitating water drainage without causing cracks in the asphalt, especially during winter months.
Tourism Development and Connections
These actions are part of the Comune di Bagolino (Municipality of Bagolino)’s tourism development plan for the Gaver and Maniva areas. Mayor Marco Scalvini believes that a good road network can lead to more comprehensive development of the surrounding mountain area.
In particular, mountain farmhouses no longer used for pastoral and agricultural purposes are assigned to entities seeking a lifestyle closer to the environment and nature. Therefore, their renovation according to new needs requires improved road connections, ensuring traffic safety at the same time.
In a recent meeting, the Municipal Administration presented the planned works to the citizens and to tourism and commercial operators in Maniva, gathering further suggestions from stakeholders, which will be carefully considered during the project implementation.
Once the roadworks are completed, areas necessary for the development of tourism infrastructure and accommodations will be identified. These works have particular significance considering the direct connection with Val Trompia, especially in view of the construction of the highway segment linking the valley to Brescia.
