Valtenesi Hosts 76th Coppa San Geo Cycling Race in Manerba del Garda

All set in Manerba del Garda, particularly in the picturesque district of Montinelle, to host the 76th edition, the 2000 edition, of the classic Coppa San Geo scheduled for next Saturday, February 26. This cycling event has long been linked to Valtenesi, having previously taken place on its internal roads multiple times, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm among the local residents.

For this edition, three municipalities in Valtenesi will be directly involved: Manerba del Garda, San Felice, and Puegnago. Starting from Manerba, at 12:15 PM, cyclists and accompanying cars will depart, passing through the district of Pieve Vecchia, heading toward San Felice del Benaco, where the official start will be given. About 200 riders are expected to line up at the start.

Route and local involvement

From Montinelle, at San Bernardo square, the «balcony on Garda», the cyclists will descend toward San Felice, then Portese and Salò. Cycling—both amateur and professional—has always enjoyed strong support in Manerba, thanks to the passion demonstrated for this sport by Prim City Mayor Isidoro Bertini.

A few days ago, Bertini, on behalf of all the mayors from Salò to Padenghe, offered the Province of Brescia a large area to host the «Velodromo del Garda». All the relevant local administrative authorities are working on preparing the necessary documentation to officially nominate the Campagnola area of Manerba for this project.

Teams and participants

Among the many teams present at the start will be that of a «Amico del Garda», and its associated events, represented by Mantovano Angelo Bottoli. This is a significant presence, as his team in 1999 achieved 41 first-place finishes, 39 second places, 33 third places, 73 «other placements», totaling 278 placements across 185 races participated in.
