Valtenesi Sicura Security Initiative Gains Support and International Interest

Great interest and, above all, great success for the Valtenesi Sicura project currently being implemented in the seven municipalities that are part of, and constitute the territory of, Valtenesi. This is a unifying initiative that, on this occasion, will go beyond borders to also host, in the near future, other municipalities that want to protect their residents and guests who have chosen this or that locality to live during the summer or holiday periods.

Start of activities and support for the project

The Valtenesi Sicura project, even in its early stages, has already sparked interest not only among the local population but also from regional and national media. It almost became an event and even a model to be followed by other towns and cities.

This is especially true for the Valtenesi area, which needs to be closely monitored to observe how the functionality unfolds. For skeptics, the first major result, as Isidoro Bertini, Mayor of Manerba and main architect and supporter of this idea, asserts, will occur in early March, when the project enters its operational phase with the start of actual activities.

Likewise, Bertini, on behalf of the participating mayors, has requested the prefect to present this Protection Plan, initially also called the “satellite shield,” to the Provincial Security Committee. Supporting the initiative is a well-known Banking Institute and the Lombardy region itself, which has provided its own contribution.

Subscription and international collaboration

Currently, the supporters who have signed up for the project already number over 300, with an initial target of approximately 1,000 users. This situation is unique, and it has also garnered interest from the Vice President of the European Parliament, Hon. Guido Podestà, who last November 12 expressed a personal interest in contact and declared his willingness to support the initiative.

On that occasion, the MEP stated, among other things, that “a project is being experimented with here that I believe could be replicated in other provinces. In Europe, and therefore not only in Italy, crime is becoming increasingly aggressive and determined.

The phenomenon of robberies against citizens in their homes is continuously expanding,” and recently in our province there have been numerous thefts and attempted burglaries in private residences.

Implementation of the security system

At present, only a couple of municipalities have been thoroughly informed by the company itself, GPD Distribution, whose commercial offices are in Turin, responsible for the technical part of the project.

(For further information, a dedicated toll-free number has been established with the company: 800 904699). This service will operate via the GSM telephone line and will monitor the territory 24 hours a day.

Special patrols of the Urbane Police have the task of intervening on-site in case of alarms. These patrols, although primarily intended for emergency response, will also operate within the territory, thereby enhancing safety and even road safety.

Indirectly, this will also serve as a preventive measure against micro-criminality and, especially during the summer, against troublemakers who disturb the night’s peace, as well as against those who have taken the incivil habit of using the roads of Valtenesi as race tracks or at high speed.

Public meeting and future initiatives

It is worth recalling that on January 19, at 8 p.m., the administrators of the Valtenesi municipalities have scheduled a meeting (which will later turn into a convivial gathering) with all local populations, to be held at the Monastero di Soiano. This meeting will serve not only to exchange New Year’s greetings but also to explain this and other initiatives that the Municipalities, soon to be united in a new Association, plan to carry forward in the near future.
