Verona Daycare Shut Down After Five Caregivers Suspended for Abuse
Five nursery teachers in Verona have been suspended for one year following allegations of child abuse, with the Verona Carabinieri executing the preventive interdiction and seizing the facility. The order, issued by the preliminary investigations judge, stems from investigations initiated in December 2025, which included technical surveillance, witness testimonies, and video recordings documenting alleged misconduct against children aged 9 months to 3 years.
Evidence collected describes physical abuse such as shoving, slapping, pinching, threats, and punitive measures, including leaving children in corners and in dark storage rooms. The investigation also revealed hygiene violations like changing diapers on the floor and reusing unclean pacifiers. Concurrently, authorities seized the property with support from the Carabinieri’s NAS unit, and the case remains in the pre-trial phase; the interdiction does not imply criminal guilt.
