The feasibility study for an innovative railway connection linking Catullo Airport to the eastern shore of Lake Garda was presented in Verona, with a total investment of 1.385 billion euros. The project involves the creation of two new rail links, the first of which will be a double-track line connecting the airport to the existing Verona-Mantova and Brescia-Verona lines, with an estimated cost of 800 million euros. The second segment will consist of a new single-track line branching off towards Bardolino, with an expected cost of 585 million euros. The Vice President of Veneto and Councillor for Infrastructure and Transport, Elisa De Berti, emphasized the importance of the initiative during a meeting organized by the Veneto Region and the Chamber of Commerce.
The construction of the railway connection is set to significantly enhance accessibility to the airport and Lake Garda, reducing travel times by both train and road. Additionally, a decrease in costs for current users of private and public transport needed to reach Catullo is anticipated. Expected benefits also include a substantial reduction in road accidents and environmental impacts, contributing to safer and more efficient mobility in the Veneto region. This strategic initiative aims to strengthen public transport in the area and further enhance one of the most attractive tourist districts in the region.
