Verona Nets Record Seizure of Counterfeit E-Bikes

Authorities in Verona seized 295 modified e-bikes and reported two individuals for commercial fraud after a joint operation by the Guardia di Finanza and Polizia Locale, in what officials describe as the largest national seizure of electric pedal-assist bicycles. The bikes were found without the mandatory documentation required by EU Directive 2006/42/EC and had their motors altered to increase performance.

The seized e-bikes are valued at about €300,000 and administrative fines exceed €11,400; inspections also identified structural deficiencies in the shops involved and irregularities in CCTV systems. Authorities said the action aims to prevent the circulation of non-compliant vehicles, protect road users and uphold commercial legality in the Verona area.
