Water thieves in Limone sul Garda: environmental fines of 150 thousand euros

Recent inspections conducted by the Forest Carabinieri of the Limone sul Garda unit have uncovered a series of irregularities related to the so-called water thieves, resulting in total fines amounting to approximately 150,000 euros. The officers discovered individuals illegally extracting water from rivers and streams without the necessary permits, identifying several violations, including 5 for failing to report the volumes of water extracted and 3 for the unauthorized withdrawal of surface water. In addition to the fines, structures built without permission on watercourses were identified, which can disrupt natural flow and increase the risk of flooding during severe weather events. These operations are part of a broader program coordinated by the Lombardy Regional Command of the Forest Carabinieri, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Lombardy Region, aimed at ensuring the sustainable use of water resources and protecting river ecosystems.
