Western Gardesana Roadwork Resumes Near Limone Until Christmas

A new, long interruption awaits motorists traveling on the Western Gardesana. The decision to resume work at the site of Forbisicle, a short distance from the eponymous hotel located just south of the long tunnel behind Campione, was made yesterday during a meeting that included representatives from Anas and the mayors of Limone, Tremosine, and Tignale.

A representative from the Mountain Community was also present. The remaining work to be completed involves the safety measures for the hill’s ridge, which were suspended last July.

Anchors for the cables holding the nets, covering approximately 10,000 square meters of mountain terrain, need to be installed in the ground. The holes to be drilled, one and a half meters deep, will number at least 1200 or 1300: roughly one every nine square meters.

The work (and the consequent patchy road closures) will begin on Monday, October 8, and will continue until Christmas. Regarding how the highway will be closed, a schedule of 45-minute stops followed by quarter-hour “windows” has been adopted, allowing motorists waiting to proceed to and from Limone.

There will also be closures for work on Saturday mornings. The work will not proceed during public holiday weekends, and traffic will remain free on Saturday afternoons and Sundays.

Management of Timing and Emergencies

The only remaining detail to be finalized concerns the situation of Tremosine students attending high schools in Gardone Riviera or Salò. Efforts will be made to ensure they can pass through in the morning to avoid delays in reaching their classes.

For this reason, the work crew’s start time could be scheduled between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. The construction site will remain open until 1:00 p.m., with a lunch break followed by resumed work at 2:00 p.m. until nightfall.

These are definitive decisions, subject to minor adjustments regarding start times in the morning and midday breaks. The final communication will be officialized during the upcoming week.

Road Conditions and Disputes with Anas

The issue facing Tremosinesi is partly caused by another road project: the work on the provincial road connecting the Tremosine port with the town hall of Pieve.

The situation at Forbisicle has persisted for many months. Over time, there have been heated disputes regarding the implementation schedule, with strong opinions from Gardesani mayors, the Mountain Community, and provincial councilor Mauro Parolini, who criticized Anas for not consulting local authorities before deciding on the timeline for the work.

The meeting yesterday might have addressed this gap in communication.
