Winter Cup Sailing Series Returns to Lake Garda for 2000 Season

For the second consecutive year, and following the great interest generated in the past winter season (’98/’99), the second edition of the Winter Cup returns on the waters of Lake Garda, organized by Circolo Nautico Portese and Circolo Vela Toscolano Maderno, in collaboration with Blu Hotels.

Series of Sailing Events

A series of sailing events that will help keep alive the interest in one of the most popular and appreciated sports on Garda waters: sailing.

After the positive response achieved last winter with the innovative Winter Cup, the two sailing clubs promoting the initiative intended to continue with this event, which saw an average of 20 boats participating in each of the four legs of the previous edition.

The Program and Stages

Thus, Italo Mosca and Enzo Mulazzi, presidents respectively of Circolo Nautico di Portese and Circolo Vela Toscolano Maderno, supported by their respective board members, decided to proceed with this particular and interesting series of regattas, which, for this edition, will consist of four stages divided as follows:

  • XIV Natale sul golfo (Circolo Nautico Portese), December 5, 1999;
  • Regata di Santa Lucia (Circolo Vela Toscolano Maderno), December 12;
  • Regata della Befana (Circolo Nautico Portese), January 9, 2000;
  • Regata di San Valentino (Circolo Vela Toscolano Maderno), February 13, 2000.

Participation Rules and Classifications

Participants are allowed in the Cruising and One-Design classes, while the courses will be either Coastal or Stick types.

The ranking will be determined applying the Minimum Score system – appendix A2 ISAF, which involves four races, one discard, and either three races or fewer than three with no discard.

At the end of the championship, included in the FIV official calendar, the traditional awards ceremony will take place at Park Hotel Casimiro, part of Blu Hotel, with prizes for the top three overall in each class.

Registrations and Info

Registrations must be submitted to the secretariats of the respective organizing clubs by December 4th for all four scheduled races, and by 9:00 AM on the day of each individual race.
