World War II grenades in Lonato: construction site safety ensured
During excavation work at a construction site located on Via Giovanni Paolo II in Lonato, two grenades dating back to World War II were discovered. The projectiles, with calibers of 76 and 75 millimeters, were found while laying the foundations for a new home. Immediately after the discovery, the carabinieri cordoned off the area while awaiting the arrival of the Army’s bomb disposal experts from Cremona.
The specialists from the 10th Engineer Regiment assessed the two ordnance items, confirming that they were devoid of explosives and therefore posed no danger to the safety of the construction site or the surrounding population. Following the inspection, a check of the nearby areas was also initiated to ensure the absence of any additional unexploded ordnance.
