In 2024, in Lombardy, there was a significant decrease in the number of missing person reports, dropping from 3,300 in 2023 to 3,211, marking a decline of 2.7%. This information comes from the annual report published by the Government’s Special Commissioner for Missing Persons, which also highlights an increase in recoveries, reaching 2,423, equivalent to 75.5% of the reports. Reports concerning minors under the age of 18 make up the majority of the filings (2,078), but they show a 7% decrease compared to the previous year.
In addition to the reduction in reports, the number of individuals still unaccounted for has drastically fallen from 1,166 in 2023 to 788 in 2024 (-32.4%). The report emphasizes the importance of collaboration between Prefectures and Law Enforcement in managing searches, with particular attention to cases involving minors and vulnerable individuals. The results achieved have been positively received as a significant improvement compared to previous years and represent a step forward in the fight against disappearances in the region.
