Recent developments regarding the Lake Garda have led to the creation of an interregional law aimed at addressing the issue of alien species, particularly the zebra mussels, which threaten the balance of the lake’s ecosystem. Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino are collaborating to implement measures for boat sanitation, requiring owners to clean the hulls and engines of boats coming from other basins before entering the lake’s waters. This initiative aims to prevent the spread of invasive organisms that could compromise local biodiversity. Brescia regional councilor Floriano Massardi emphasized the importance of maintaining the current political framework until the elections on November 23 and 24, so that the legislative project can proceed without obstacles. The law outlines ecological methods for sanitation, such as the use of high-pressure water jets, without chemical products. According to Filippo Gavazzoni from the Garda Community, this measure represents a crucial step in safeguarding the lake from the invasion of alien species, a growing phenomenon linked to increased tourist flows and boating traffic.
