Decrease in overnight stays in Toscolano Maderno: analysis of tourism in Alto Garda
The tourism balance of Toscolano Maderno shows a decline, with a 3.5% drop in overnight stays and the revenue from the tourist tax. During a meeting held at the Cavandoli auditorium, Mayor Chiara Chimini presented the data from the tourist season to local business operators and residents. From the end of March to October, the area recorded approximately 550,000 overnight stays, with an average of 4.19 nights per visit. The figures indicate that 29% of arrivals were in hotels and 33% in campsites, while the total revenue from the tourist tax amounted to 630,000 euros. The mayor emphasized that despite the decline, the season was satisfactory due to the extension of the average stay. The difficulties are primarily attributed to the ongoing economic crisis in the German market and the inflation affecting the Italian market. The revenues will be reinvested in local cultural and tourism activities, including sports events and initiatives to improve accessibility. Furthermore, the Paper Museum saw an increase in visitors of nearly 8%, reaching a total of 11,493, demonstrating how tourism-related interventions can have positive effects on the local community.
