Music Event at Riva Pictures Festival

The Riva Pictures Festival, known for its series of band concerts organized by the Riva del Garda Band, will host a concert by the Valmaggese Philharmonic. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th and will take place in the picturesque courtyard of the Rocca in Riva del Garda. The conductor will be Maestro Mattia Terzi and admission will be free, allowing music enthusiasts of all kinds to participate.

The History of the Valmaggese Philharmonic

The Valmaggese Philharmonic came into existence on May 26th, 2014, following the dissolution of the only music band in the Maggia Valley, the Cavergno Band. A group led by Mattia Terzi and some former committee members decided to form a new musical entity that would represent the entire valley rather than a single village. This new ensemble was officially founded with the establishment of the first music school in Vallemaggia in September of the same year, offering courses for various musical instruments and music theory.

Music Education and Community

The educational commitment of the philharmonic goes beyond individual instrument instruction; it also includes collective music theory classes and an ensemble music course that promotes the value of making music together. Currently, the school has around ten students, both young and adult. On April 25th, 2015, during the annual assembly, the Valmaggese Philharmonic was admitted as a new affiliated band to the Ticino Band Federation (Febati), marking an important recognition for the group.

Leadership Changes and Future Goals

In September 2016, there was a change in presidency: Stefania Pagani took over from Sandra Barca. Under the guidance of the young conductor Mattia Terzi, the philharmonic now has around 50 active members from Vallemaggia and the neighboring Locarno region. The main goal remains to spread musical culture in the region, bringing joy and entertainment through musical performances.

In conclusion, the concert at the Riva Pictures Festival represents not only a significant cultural event for Riva del Garda but also a celebration of the ongoing commitment of the Valmaggese Philharmonic to promoting music education and strengthening community bonds through music.
