Sirmione-Catullo Award Transformed into International Journalism Prize

It’s decided. The Sirmione-Catullo Award will continue to exist, even in a new format. These are the decisions made by the municipal administration and announced during the City Council.

Former mayor Mario Arduino had previously prompted questions about this topic, which is particularly dear to the residents of Sirmione. He was responded to by the new mayor Ferrari.

The award, which was originally literary, is being transformed into a “journalistic” one and will aim to promote Italy abroad.

Structure and objectives of the award

The Sirmione-Catullo consists of two sections: the first will have an international scope and will award a foreign journalist or a foreign press outlet that, in the previous 12 months, published articles or reports of significant cultural, tourism, or environmental interest about our country.

The second will award a national television program or an Italian television journalist who, in the preceding 12 months, has contributed with special reports to increasing viewers’ interest in issues related to tourism, culture, and environment.

The organization of the initiative will be entrusted to a management committee. There are two jurors who will operate under the responsibility of a single president.

The awarding of the journalistic-television prize will be entrusted to a popular jury selected by the City Council from among Sirmione residents, based on a list of five names provided by the competent jury.

The popular jury will consist of 100 people appointed by the municipality from residents or those domiciled in the area. The vote will take place at least 10 days before the awards ceremony.

The prize money is 20 million lire for each section.

Regarding the president of the juries, the name of Bruno Vespa is circulating.
