Support for Disabled Adults: Redeveloping Convent for Rehab Center
Oddities and Absurdities. This State commits to supporting people with disabilities throughout their entire school period, ensuring generally acceptable treatment. However, once they leave school, disabled individuals, from a cultural perspective, are completely and absolutely abandoned: in social terms, their presence is sustained only by volunteer work.
Abandoned to themselves, even physical disabled individuals regress alarmingly, losing everything they had managed to gain in terms of autonomy, dignity, and freedom. The Adult Education Research Center, led by Professor Francesco Napoli, operates against this situation, bringing extensive experience gained during his many years in Friuli.
Projects and recovery proposals
Now, the Crea cooperative also needs space for its activities: classrooms, laboratories. With this in mind, Professor Napoli has gained broad support for the proposal to utilize the convent of Inviolata, to be renovated as part of the Cento Città competition.
The Banco di San Paolo asks Cento Città — including Riva — to submit a recovery project of a building to a jury, intended for socio-cultural purposes. “The primary use of the convent,” writes Professor Napoli to Councillor Marino, “should be that of a rehabilitation, training, and integration center for adult psychosomatic handicapped individuals, who until today, not even in the rest of Italy, have found a qualified gathering and integration place aimed at recovering their citizenship rights.”
Against this tragic cultural and civil regression, the dream also exists of receiving support from the bank.
