Aloisio Immigration Growth Surpasses 5.7% with International Community Efforts
Even in the first seven months of 2000, the influx of foreigners into the town of Aloisio remains significant: demographic service data indicate that there are 79 more foreigners compared to the start of the year, for a total of 1,043 residents.
If this flow maintains its pace, by the end of December, the officially registered immigrants in the registry office could reach 1,100.
The percentage of foreigners within the overall population is also indicative: 5.7%, compared to a national average of 2.2%.
Clearly, the numerous productive activities of the Alto Mantovano area, especially those of the Castiglione companies, are able to absorb a substantial portion of workforce, as most regular immigrants generally have a job.
Finding accommodation remains more difficult, given the saturation of the ‘Cinque Continenti’ area and the substantial rent burden in other parts of the town.
Composition and origins of immigrants
Returning to the statistics, it is noted that among these foreigners, as many as 995, or 95%, come from outside the European Union: originating from 44 different countries around the world, with Moroccans (350 individuals) being the largest group, followed by Nigerians (186) and Yugoslavs (105).
Significant colonies also come from Ghana (70), China (53), Albania (32), Vietnam (22), and Somalia (19).
Regarding internal migration within the European Union, Germans lead with 17 presence records in the Castiglione territory.
New needs and initiatives for integration
A multicultural community of such size naturally creates new needs: for example, regarding places of worship and gathering, the municipality has made the Palazzo Menghini available, which will soon undergo renovation works.
In the educational field, the administration has launched, in partnership with compulsory education institutions, the project «Interculturalmente» to promote the integration of foreign students.
For its part, the Social Services department is planning the construction of a reception center to address the emergency need for temporary housing, along with a service desk for foreigners in collaboration with the Province, volunteer organizations, and trade unions: this aims to support the social and labor integration of immigrants.
