Desenzano Launches Agriculture Advisory Board to Support Local Producers

For years, numerous companies have been operating in the hinterland of Desenzano, making agriculture their main activity. These companies are particularly focused on wine and oil production or are involved in agritourism rather than the fisheries sector.

With their work, they contribute to the revival of a sector that, due to the profound transformations experienced by the Italian economy after World War II, has gradually decreased in prominence.

Therefore, considering the importance these activities hold in the city’s economy, the Municipality of Desenzano, on the initiative of the City Council President Dr. Maria Ida Germontani, deemed it appropriate to establish the Agriculture Advisory Board.

Purposes and tasks of the Advisory Board

The main goal is to provide support to these companies to enhance and qualify their production.

At the same time, alongside the revitalization of the agricultural economy, environmental protection of the territory will be undertaken through rural development planning that ensures greater landscape protection and prevents the occurrence of hydrogeological instability.

These are the main tasks that the advisory board will be called to perform: deepen understanding of the activities established in the territory, address various issues related to production and product dissemination; become a reference point for information and updates on the numerous legislative regulations governing the sector.

Furthermore: develop proposals and undertake initiatives for the acquisition of a specific quality mark for Garda products that protects their origin and enhances their quality.

The Advisory Board, which will be formally established by an Executive Committee resolution, will be chaired by Dr. Tommaso Giardino and will include one representative from each sector operating within the municipality, along with four representatives chosen by the political forces present in Council.
