Trans Benaco Regatta Begins with Long-Course Races on Garda Lake

On Saturday morning at 10 AM, the 14th edition of the «Trans Benaco Cruise Race-Trofeo Inoxpran» will kick off, a sailing regatta reserved for Cabinati and Monotipi.

During the first day, after departing from the Portese-Salò gulf, the fleet will head towards Riva, in Garda Trentino, hosted by the local Fraglia Vela. From there, the group will restart on Sunday at 8:30 AM for the second and final day.

Characteristics of the races and weather conditions

Considering the significant distances planned for the race, the two races will essentially become very long «poppa» legs, where spinnakers and gennakers (the larger, colorful sails) will be used.

The first leg will be characterized by a breeze from the Ora, while the second will feature the morning «Peler», almost a preview of what the 50th Centomiglia will offer on September 2, with its «against-the-clock» route on the lower lake.

Participations and history of the regatta

This year’s Trans Benaco will see once again Lisa participating, the beautiful Zero class cabinato designed by Andrea Vallicelli, the «father» of «Azzurra», which won this race in 1997 and 1998.

In the previous edition, the top spot was claimed by «Mediatel» owned by Franco Zambiasi, while the roll of honor also includes the «doppiette» (double wins) of desenzanese Virgilio Vemagi, salodiano Mario Baldini, toscolanese Franco Zambiasi, and gargnanese Domenico Bruzzi, among the contenders for victory in this edition.

It’s worth noting that the Circolo Nautico di Portese, chaired by Italo Mosca, has organized a calendar of side events, including vintage car races and collateral activities during both the Riva stage and the second day, which will also feature the final awards ceremony.

Regattas in Spain and standings

(s. pell.) • PALMA DI MAIORCA (Spain) — The «Bribon», skippered by Juan Carlos di Borbone, is currently leading the provisional standings of the «Copa del Rey», a sailing regatta reserved for the cabinato classes of the Mediterranean.

The boat «Merit Cup», helmed by Triestine Vascotto, is in third place at the moment, while «Brava», from Verbania and commanded by Flavio Favini, is fifth.

In the mid-field, «Good Job Guy», skippered by Brescia’s Claudio Uberti, is twentieth in the overall ranking after two races. The series of races for the «Copa del Rey» will conclude on Sunday.
