Castiglione Barracks Project Moves Forward Amid Approval Delays
According to some rumors confirmed by the administration, next fall could be the decisive period for the long-awaited (and hopefully definitive) approval of the construction of the Carabinieri barracks in Castiglione delle Stiviere.
Practice Progress and Current Status
The rumors speak of a possible acceleration in the very long process for the new military station in Castiglione. At the Ministero dell’Interno (Ministry of Interior), the practice has finally found the right path to receive a definitive opinion. As many will recall, the project has been on the municipal administration’s desks for years, modified through various stages.
After, some years ago, the arduous decision was made to either directly build the barracks or entrust the construction to private companies (opting for the latter), a series of companies subsequently submitted their credentials, but none managed to complete the operation. This was despite the consistent interest from various administrators.
Statements by the Mayor and Upcoming Developments
Mayor Sigurtà, who nonetheless did not want to make forecasts regarding the timeline for the conclusion of the procedural process (probably to avoid risking being proven wrong, as has often happened to his predecessors), had previously indicated that some movement was happening. “We have sent the practice to Rome, after it bounced back incredibly many times from Castiglione to Mantova, to Milan, and again to Rome. I believe that the right course has finally been taken now.”
On one hand, the project-related issues have been overcome with a derogation from the ministries and the regional command of the Carabinieri; on the other hand, it was discovered that on several occasions the practice had been sent to a branch of the Ministero (Ministry) that was not competent in the matter, thus unable to give a conformity opinion.
Now, from the bodies responsible for approving the project (the Carabinieri command through the Ministero della Difesa and the Ministero dell’Interno), positive indications are arriving. Final approval regarding both the lease evaluation and the overall project should be forthcoming. While instances of crime are increasing in Castiglione, if everything proceeds as expected, next year could be the right one.
