Garda Civil Protection Service Aids Over 1,000 Incidents After Year-Old Launch

The establishment of the emergency service, better known as the “inter-municipal civil protection service,” is proving to be increasingly positive. This service is coordinated and managed by the Volontari del Garda and is based in Sirmione, in the Lugana Marina area.

The role of the service and the involved administrations

It was 11 Municipal administrations from the middle and lower Garda area that called for this presence, which has already handled over a thousand interventions despite the service being active for just under a year. The Service not only carries out emergency response interventions but also provides weather condition updates to anticipate the evolution of atmospheric situations, advising whether it is more or less advisable to undertake a trip or excursion on Lake Garda.

Lake Garda and atmospheric risks

A lake, as a reminder, with extremely rapid and often unpredictable weather changes that can quickly turn into various alerts and near-tragedies. This was not the case last year, during this very period of Ferragosto, when three foreign tourists lost their lives due to a severe thunderstorm that struck Garda.
