Urban Development Projects Kick Off in Brescia This Fall

The fall promises to be a truly “hot” season for the public works sector: after completing the porphyry paving in Piazza Betteloni in front of the town hall a few weeks ago, the Municipal Administration is set to begin a series of significant interventions.

The first project in chronological order is the bocce court on Via Ragazzi del ’99, nearby the sports facilities in San Benedetto: construction is starting this week, with nine months allocated for completing the structure at a total cost of one billion five hundred million euros (funded by the sale of land in Pioppi).

The project includes the construction of four regulation courts with spectator stands, an independent hall capable of hosting around one hundred spectators, and services designed to turn the bocce court into a true community hub.

New parking areas and traffic improvements

The new parking lot in the historic center near the sports field will cost approximately 900 million euros, mostly covered by a regional fund. It will feature 400 parking spaces and a sidewalk connecting the area to Porta Brescia, which will also have its fencing renovated.

Sidewalks will also be built along Via Milano and Via degli Alpini, at a cost of about 700 million euros, along with the redesign of street lighting on Via Marzan, Via Mantova, and Via Monzambano, with a total expenditure of just over 200 million euros.

Restoration and expansion of municipal facilities

One hundred million euros will be allocated to the first phase of restoring the former slaughterhouse, which will be repurposed as a municipal warehouse. An expansion of the Frassino cemetery, including the construction of 150 new tombs, is already in planning.

Following the widening of the railway bridge on Via Mantova—a project managed by the Municipality that resulted in the construction of a sidewalk on a dangerously narrow section—two similar interventions are ready to commence. These were approved at the last City Council meeting, with a budget of 350 million euros: the San Giovanni Bridge over Canal of Mezzo, located in the historic center, and the Customs Bridge towards the highway; the latter will be complemented by landscaping in Largo Marina gardens.

Projects still in development phase

While the bureaucratic process for the projects described so far seems ready to give way to construction sites, two significant projects located in Porto Vecchio are still in early stages: negotiations for acquiring land for the two new football fields, with seven hundred million euros allocated so far; and the design of new elementary schools, awarded to Adenti di Cremona studio, which is already at work.

As mentioned earlier, a busy autumn is on the horizon, including the second phase of lighting the historic city walls—a project that the administration has been developing for some time and for which it has finally found the right technical partner.
