Traffic Delays Continue at Arco Ring Road Despite Completion of Work
After the outburst in the first days of August, with long workdays even on Saturdays and Sundays in the rain, all activity at the ring road construction site has ceased.
The roundabout at the entrance to Linfano has been reopened, but the ramps leading to the bridge over the Sarca remain intransigently blocked, even though the works are completed. Passing by, one gets the impression that simply removing the plastic protections concealing the signage, already installed for all directions, would be enough to allow the long-awaited new road to enter daily use: but initiating what seems a straightforward operation is not even considered, and so, despite the August holiday period reducing traffic to historic lows, trucks continue to pass through.
Traffic issues and consequences
In fact, it appears that trucks are the cause of the unforeseen prolongation of a hardship that Arco residents and their visitors thought they could finally leave behind.
The new signage installed by the provincial traffic service does not specify that the ban on crossing the Sarca from south to north remains in force for heavy vehicles, which could lead to an overload of freight trucks on the Maza road, cutting through the Vignole neighborhood, complicating entry at the Nago junction on the Rivana state road.
Instead, the Trivio di Torbole traffic would greatly benefit, as the trucks currently using the Nago ascent to reach the Rovereto Sud Autobrennero station would finally disappear from this route.
An evolution of the traffic problem that the municipal administration of Arco has deemed unacceptable; even at the risk of delaying the long-awaited opening of the ring road by a few days, as signs prohibiting entry to heavy vehicles heading north—or at least those intending to use the Maza towards Rovereto—are intended to be repeated at the entrance.
This issue will be discussed at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 21, in Varignano, in a meeting involving the provincial department of public works, traffic service technicians, and the mayors of Arco, Nago Torbole, and Riva.
