City Council Debates Revival of Cavalieri Pasta Factory Project
After the summer break, the political debate reignites ahead of September’s city council meeting. It is expected that the proposal concerning the former Cavalieri pasta factory, a dilapidated building located between Piazza San Luigi, Via Perati, and Via Marconi, will be brought to the assembly. The project, drafted by Engineer Savoldi, is now ready for political discussion and could finally resolve a long-standing urban planning issue.
While awaiting the council’s consideration of the proposed resolution from the administration, the center-left opposition comments on the matter. “The fact that an intervention to restore the former pasta factory is progressing is positive,” states Maria Grazia Margonari, leader of the PPI.
“Of course, an agreement with the private owner is essential so that the matter can be resolved swiftly. As in previous cases, the administration must seek the property’s consensus.”
Use Designation and Future Ideas
Regarding the intended use, the Populars leader remains non-committal: “It must be decided based on a broader urban planning program that the majority will need to develop. Between the former pasta factory and the Opg area, there is significant volume that should be reorganized in conjunction with a plan for downtown traffic management.”
Similarly, the DS group leader, Giovanni Saviola, shares his perspective: “We need ideas for Castiglione; the former pasta factory is closely linked to the Opg sector. The administration should initiate a discussion on urban planning, not come to the council with ready-to-vote proposals. Specifically for the Cavalieri building, beyond legal considerations, the property owner’s rights must also be taken into account.”
Saviola believes the site’s primary designation should be residential, with commercial spaces on the ground floor and underground parking. In conclusion, he adds, “I am pleased to see that the architect has continued work from where the previous administration left off, recognizing its validity.”
