Lake Garda Tourism Hits Record Mid-2023 Figures, Boosted by Campsites

With sails billowing, tourism on Lake Garda soars. In the first six months of 2000, record peaks were matched and overall surpassed compared to the same period last year. A mainly positive initial assessment is apparent from the figures provided by the statistics office of the Azienda di promozione turistica Riviera degli Olivi, with arrivals improved by one percentage point and tourist stay days increasing by 1.8 percent.

From 624,585 arrivals last year, the number rose to 630,804, while in terms of overnight stays, from 2,886,908 to 2,939,724. The most significant contribution in both arrivals and stays comes from supplementary facilities, namely campsites and holiday villages, which saw increases of 4.5 and 1.7 percent respectively. Conversely, in hotels and inns, a one percent decrease in arrivals was matched by a two percent increase in the number of stay days.

Trends in Hotels and Star Categories

Analyzing the data series reveals that the most substantial increases are seen in four-star and three-star hotels, with a contraction in two-star establishments. However, these latter companies are continually decreasing due to ongoing requalification and the shift to higher categories.
