Castiglione Domani Backs Oversight Committee Amid Political Tensions
It has certainly not gone unnoticed, despite the holiday period, the statement from the Castiglione Domani list, which officially announced its support for the League’s motion to establish an oversight committee for at-risk neighborhoods.
The Mayor Sigurtà, who had previously considered this committee unnecessary, did not want to comment immediately on his relative majority’s stance. He deferred his official position until today, but did not hide his displeasure at this statement.
The head of the PPI council group, Maria Grazia Margonari, also expressed dissatisfaction with the situation, analyzing it from two different perspectives: technical and political. Regarding the role of this committee, the former mayoral candidate emphasized that it is impossible to form an opinion in the dark.
“It has never been clarified what this committee is supposed to serve, what specific role it should have, and above all, to whom it should report its activities. For this reason, I absolutely do not feel comfortable approving it, and I believe a clarification is essential before I can take a definitive stance,” she states.
Change of course and party reactions
On the political front, Margonari speaks of a sudden change of direction by Castiglione Domani and of “strange movements”: “It seems strange to me that Castiglione Domani now supports this committee, when during a conference of group leaders they insisted on not even including the motion on the agenda.
“Evidently, there has been a change of course. We hope that the next council clarifies everyone’s positions,” she concludes.
The Lega Nord is pleased, making this initiative one of its main achievements: “If the committee is established,” said Secretary Roberto Alessandria, “it will not be a victory for Lega but for all citizens.
The problems in at-risk neighborhoods are increasing, and a control body is needed. All favorable votes for our proposal, and naturally those from Castiglione Domani, are welcome,” he adds.
