Mayor Sigurtà Opposes Control Commission for At-Risk Neighborhoods
“I still believe that forming a control commission for at-risk neighborhoods is unnecessary. However, it will be discussed in the city council. New majorities? As we’ve started, we’ll finish.” Mayor Arturo Sigurtà does not hold back when addressing the topic of the control commission on Cinque Continenti and other at-risk neighborhoods.
Even the position of his minority supporting list, Castiglione Domani, does not catch him off guard to the point of denying, in a completely categorical manner, any willingness to accept a change in majority.
Sigurtà, who some time ago explained that he believed the commission was not necessary, reiterates this view and even clarifies it: “Data on crime in Castiglione during these months of 2000 show that, more than ever this year, thefts and robberies are decreasing. Furthermore, I believe the security situation in the Cinque Continenti and Primo maggio neighborhoods is under control.”
Public order is not the responsibility of the municipality: we are in a country where there is one uniform per 100 people; it is the State that should make better use of them. The serious problem at Cinque Continenti is hygiene: for this reason, we have also asked for help from property owners, who respond verbally but do not collaborate in practice.”
“I still want to emphasize that, anyone talking about integration problems should know that integration between us and foreigners practically does not exist, perhaps also due to our own behaviors. And I want to reaffirm that I am the government representative, and I am diligently addressing these issues.”
“I do not believe there is any need for a commission, which in this sector I do not know what kind of competences and powers it could have.” Regarding the feared political revolution within his majority, Sigurtà does not want to give any credence to any speculation: “Voters elected us with this coalition, and we will finish the legislature this way.”
“We are happy if other votes support our initiatives, but our majority must remain the same as at the elections; otherwise, I am not willing to continue,”
