Exhibition Showcases Handcrafted Art by Ethiopian Disabled Youth

A reassuringly successful exhibition featuring handcrafted artworks by young disabled artists from Ethiopia is attracting numerous visitors-buyers. The event was organized by the microproject Rainbow, supported also by the Cassa rurale di Arco, and is being held in the Segantini room of Piazza delle Canoniche.

The exhibition aims to complement the funds already raised to finance the project and will remain open until Sunday, September 17.

The Rainbow Project and Its Objectives

The Rainbow project was conceived by Dr. Roberto Calzà, a 44-year-old native of Arco, with a degree in agricultural sciences. He is engaged in implementing rural development projects promoted by the Joint Research Centre of Ispra, the United Nations, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Arsi zone, within the Oromia region of Ethiopia.

Beneficiaries of the Rainbow microproject, which will cost 5 million lire over two years, will include 25 children and young people with disabilities, who are particularly talented artistically. They will be taught to produce handcrafted objects, signage, posters, and high-quality paintings by one art teacher and two young artist-trainers (all figures not funded directly by the microproject).

Activities and Collaboration

The two-year course will be held in Asella, with the collaboration of the Cheshire Home Asella, an organization dedicated to providing a future for disabled children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years.
