First “Luccio d’oro” Fishing Contest Organizes Charity Event in Peschiera

The first edition of the “Luccio d’oro” trolling fishing competition takes place today: the event has been organized by the municipal administration in collaboration with the Associazione di Pesca Sportiva Arilicense Golden Fish.

The Province has granted permission to hold the competition with “tirlindana and a maximum of 50 contestants“; allowed are “up to three tirlindanas per boat, each up to 150 meters in length, equipped with no more than 12 branches, each holding a natural or artificial bait.”

The boats and participants gather at the Port, where attendance will be verified and competition numbers assigned; the event will start at 5:30 AM, and the fishermen will have six hours to test their skills.

The competition and award activities

At 11:45 AM, a quarter of an hour after the end of the contest, the weighing of pike will take place, followed by the merit classification; after the official rankings, the prize-giving ceremony will be held in Piazza San Marco.

All the catch will be immediately auctioned around 12:30 PM, and the proceeds will be donated to charity.

Objectives and prizes of the event

We hope that this event can become a regular fixture for Peschiera and fishing enthusiasts, a sport widely practiced in our territory,” says Gianantonio Fratuccello, the creator of the competition. “It’s part of our ongoing efforts and desire to preserve the traditions of our people.”

Another goal is to promote the natural lake environment and teach respect for it.

There are two prizes: one for the largest quantity of fish caught, and one for the heaviest “pike”; the beneficiary of the proceeds from the charity auction is yet to be decided.

“It will definitely be a local organization. We have a rough idea for now, but we will finalize it after the event,” he says.
