Lombardia Tar Ruling Blocks Pirossina Landfill Project
“I believe that with a sentence like this, our anti-landfill battle can be considered definitively closed and, above all, won.” These are words of great satisfaction from Giovanni Tosi, the president of the Comitato antidiscarica di Castiglione.
The Tar ruling annulled the regional resolution that approved the project of Ambiental Geo for a waste disposal landfill dealing with hazardous and toxic waste at Pirossina.
Details of the ruling and the Committee’s position
Tosi elaborates: “Fortunately, the Tar issued a ruling that addressed and analyzed important issues. It explicitly mentions procedural errors in the calling of the technical conference by the Regione Lombardia and other formal irregularities.”
But, most importantly, it also refers to environmental aspects. It specifically cites the Piano Cave provinciale and states that, for some time, the Pirossina site, along with the surrounding area, had been considered too vulnerable to support the presence of such an installation.
This is arguably the most substantive aspect of the battle we fought, and it makes any further appeal by Ambiental Geo unlikely. At this point, Tosi considers the mission of the Comitato antidiscarica concluded:
“Now that I believe we have definitively won, I cannot help but thank some individuals: Maresciallo Sorrentino and P.M. Rosina, without whom the precautionary seizure of the quarry would not have been carried out and, probably, the landfill would have already been started.”
A thanks also to the press, which, through its attention to the issue, prevented anyone from acting unnoticed.”——————————————————————————–
