Lake Garda’s Homerus Project Sailors to Showcase Autonomous Navigation in Sydney
The Lake Garda will be present, from October 11 in Sydney during the Paralympics. Once again, the blind sailors of the Homerus Project will represent it, officially invited to demonstrate autonomous sailing navigation.
The announcement of this new international presence, of this project born and developed on Lake Garda thanks to the commitment of Alessandro Gaoso, was made the other day during a press conference held at the “Garda & Vino” wine shop in Moniga del Garda.
Presentation and presence in Sydney
But the blind sailors in Sydney will not be alone; besides the official escorts, they will also be accompanied by the main wines of Lake Garda, from Chiarettto to Groppello to Lugana Doc.
“This is an occasion,” emphasized Gaoso, “to present to the world part of our province’s wine production, which makes us deeply proud for the undisputed quality reached by our wines.”
Anniversaries, meetings, and successes
A year full of satisfactions for this association which, in a few years, despite initial skepticism, even and perhaps especially among the blind, has reached 80 members, 28 of whom joined in 2000.
Notable events include, besides various international appearances, a meeting with President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, the match race at Blu Rimini with Paul Cayard, the Anglo-Italian championship at Queen Mary’s Reservoir in England, and promotional participation in “Cantalago 2000” with a fundraising campaign through the sale of a CD containing a musical piece composed especially for Homerus by Giovanni Vangi and sung by Andrea Vantini, titled “In questo immenso vivere” (“In This Immense Living”).
