German and Austrian Couple Found Dead in Lonato from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Two elderly individuals, Kurt Leonhard Sommer (62) and Claudia Kirchmair (61), were found dead in their home on Via Campagna Franceschini in Lonato. The Austrian-German couple, who purchased the house four years ago with plans to relocate permanently to Lake Garda upon retirement, were discovered after their son in Innsbruck reported being unable to contact his mother for days.

Authorities found the bodies in the bathroom—Sommer in the bathtub and Kirchmair nearby—without signs of violence or forced entry. Initial investigations suggest carbon monoxide poisoning from a gas heater in the bathroom as the likely cause of death, dating back to early January. The house has been sealed off, and the bodies are at Brescia Civil Hospitals awaiting autopsy.
