Brescia Wine Center Prepares for Novello 2000 Release and Events
Just a few days remain until the first wine of the 2000 harvest, Novello, will be available on tables. A ritual that, over 11 years—since the Provveditoria dei Novelli Bresciani was established in the province of Brescia in 1989—has reached perhaps unexpected milestones. This production, with its ups and downs, has always satisfied enthusiasts of this wine, made via carbonic maceration of the grapes.
Approximately twenty producing companies in our province, members of the Provveditoria, typically supply an average of 200,000 bottles to the market, with a peak of 218,000 last year and a low of 148,700 in 1994. This year’s forecasts indicate a slight decline in production compared to the previous year, but unquestionably, the quality is among the best produced so far.
Confirmation will come, as throughout Italy, on November 6, the date set for the release and commercial distribution of Novello. Yesterday morning (Friday), in the evocative setting of the Santa Giulia church, within the nearby monumental complex, the presentation of the intensely prepared institutional program for this event took place.
Participants and services offered
Nearly all the presidents and responsables of the main organizations and associations related to viticulture and gastronomy, from Brescia, were present, including the always present Provincial Assessor for Agriculture Giampaolo Mantelli, the president of the Ente Vini Alberto Pancera, and the president of the Provveditoria dei Novelli Bresciani, Piero Berardi.
Other attendees included the president of ARTHOB, Beppe Dattoli, and Brescia’s delegate of AIS, Emilio Zanola. Also present were the Assessor of Brescia Municipality, representing Mayor Corsini, Guindani, Agostino Mantovani, secretary of the Fondazione CAB (linked for many years to the agricultural sector), and the president of APT, Banzola.
Gabriele Archetti, author of numerous publications related to the wine world, such as the exceptional Tempus Vindemie, was among the speakers. The only absent participant, excused and justified, was Novello itself. However, its absence will surely be compensated for in the coming weeks.
Program of events and tastings
As always, the schedule of events is very dense, with activities planned in several squares around Brescia Province and beyond. It will begin on November 4 and 5 with the National Novello Fair of Vicenza and with the presentation of Novello wines to the Prefect of Brescia.

On Wednesday, November 8 at 9:00 PM, a tasting will be held at the restaurant-pub to introduce young people to the knowledge and consumption of this excellent product, also paired with dishes, including fish, in Via Zima in Brescia.
On November 11, the square of Orzinuovi will host an event, while on the 12th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Iseo will host an event featuring roasted chestnuts offered by the Consorzio dei Castanicoltori Bresciani.
