Garda Receives Nearly €1 Billion for Tourism Development Plan
There’s a flood of money coming for hotels and travel agencies. The Regional Council, on the proposal of the tourism assessor Floriano Pra, has approved a contribution plan totaling almost one billion euros exclusively for the tourism facilities of the municipality of Garda. The mayor Giorgio Comencini announced this to economic operators through a circular addressed to the hotel associations, the merchants’ association, as well as to all hoteliers and travel agents in Garda. “I can only express the satisfaction and gratitude of the Administration,” says Comencini, “for this decision by the Regional Council. It proves that ceding the former nursery school to the Region to house the tourism promotion company and various regional satellite offices also acts as a catalyst for other initiatives benefiting our tourism economy.”
Origin of the regional contribution
How did this generous regional gift to Garda’s hoteliers and tour operators come about? To understand its origin, one must trace back — as highlighted by Veneto’s assessor Pra in explaining the resolution — to Law 266 of August 1997, which established the national fund for co-financing regional interventions in the commerce and tourism sectors. The regional implementation program foresaw a significant financial intervention in the municipalities of Garda, Recoaro, and Livinallongo del Col di Lana: one billion euros for the first two, half a billion for the third.
