Pirossina and Cava del Pirata Excluded from Mantova Quarry Plan

The Pirossina area and the Cava del Pirata will not be included in the quarry plan currently being prepared by the Provincia di Mantova.

Announcing this news at the end of the meeting held yesterday were Maurizio Sali, the provincial councilor, and David Beruffi, the councilor for the municipality of Castiglione, both responsible for ecology and land management.

Also present at the meeting on behalf of the province was architect Leoni.

Results of the Meeting on Pirossina

The meeting held yesterday followed the news of the potential inclusion of the Pirossina quarry into the quarry plan.

Last week, Giovanni Tosi, president of the Castiglione anti-disposal committee, had raised the alarm.

Following that statement, the municipal government of Castiglione and the provincial government had communicated and arranged the meeting that took place yesterday.

The outcome was better than expected: in addition to the Pirossina area, the complete exclusion of the Cava del Pirata from the quarry plan appears to be confirmed.

Comment from Councilor Beruffi

Summarizing the details of the meeting, Castiglione councilor David Beruffi said: “It was a very constructive meeting with a positive outcome. What was said in recent weeks was likely the result of misunderstandings, which I clarified with the cooperation of Councilor Sali and his officials.”

“I handed over the Pirossina sports park project to the Provincia, and in response, Councilor Sali confirmed that this area will not be included in the upcoming quarry plan under any circumstances.”

Architect Leoni, the provincial manager responsible, also confirmed this, adding that the sports park project, as presented, will also be included in the provincial territorial coordination plan, given its supra-municipal interest.

Furthermore — Beruffi concluded — another topic was discussed with Sali and Leoni, that of the Cava del Pirata.

In this case too, the province demonstrated its attentiveness to our needs and confirmed that it intends to maintain its designation as an area subject to reclamation, as also established by the Region.”
