Malossini Aims to Resolve Inviolata Debt, Boosting Convent Rejuvenation
“It’s true that I kept the story of the ‘account’ of 984 million lire that the Bishop presented to me in June completely secret, but it’s equally true that, by staying calm and avoiding bombastic statements (which are not part of my character), the situation has now become clearer and calmer for the administration. In fact, I believe that this story of the municipal debt for the uncelebrated Masses will end up giving a healthy boost to the recovery of a structure, the Inviolata convent, which has been in a state of decay and abandonment for too many years,”
Yesterday morning, Mayor Cesare Malossini explained.
All in all, Malossini was not displeased that our newspaper “caught” a piece of news that had been handled cautiously in the Municipality. “Now that our legal adviser has told us that it’s not actually certain that the Masses at Inviolata are to be paid for (also because they were never celebrated: they should have been four a day!),” — explains Malossini — “it’s clear that we have good cards to play with the Curia. We’re fine with the fact that they intend to renovate the Convent, but it’s obvious that we won’t shell out a single lira in cash. Instead, we’re willing to gladly transfer it, well aware that near an important church like the Inviolata, that is certainly not the place for activities that are inappropriate to the site’s religiosity. I think we can really find an agreement with the Bishop to establish a Center for Ecclesiastical Studies, in coexistence with some parallel cultural activity of the Municipality.”
Issues of cooperation and future initiatives
Is this about the Library? “No. For that, there’s Palazzo Salvadori-Lutti. It’s part of our program, and we must adhere to it.” What will be your next moves? “Certainly, I will discuss it with the new parish priest, Don Giovanni. And if necessary, with monsignor Bressan.” Will they insist on the old story of the thousands of unpaid Masses? “I don’t think so. We have a cordial relationship. The important thing is the goals that benefit the community. Getting there even through an account that initially made me jump!”
