Wine & Future: Long-Term Research on Wine Aging by Redaelli De Zinis

“Wine & Future” is the title of the “absolutely unique in its kind” project dedicated to studying the evolution of wines, which started on Sunday afternoon at the Redaelli De Zinis Winery.

The proposal comes from the Istituto di Cultura del Vino (Wine Culture Institute), directed by Lucio Amore, and was presented to a large audience of industry professionals, producers, and journalists, among whom the figure of Luigi Veronelli stood out in the crowd.

At the panel of speakers, in addition to Lucio Amore, were among others the Provincial Councilor for Agriculture Giampaolo Mantelli, oenologists Cugnasco and Ferrari, and notary Mastrelli from Desenzano.

Objectives and details of the Project

But what is this Project meant to be? It is essentially a research plan that will develop over five years and will allow verification of the time necessary for wine to reach – as Amore explained – balance and harmony of all its components and thus provide us with absolutely reliable information about its potential.

Main actors, in addition to the Wine Culture Institute and the Redaelli Winery, are the participating producing companies and a group of experts made up of the most skilled enologists and technicians in the region.

“The objective of the project becomes clear in all its importance and effectiveness within what the Wine Culture Institute – highlighted by Lucio Amore – is undertaking to provide an indispensable contribution to the Italian oenological world and to enhance the credibility of a sector that has often experienced moments of controversy and has been challenged multiple times.”

Management and expected results of the Project

Currently, in a dark cellar with controlled humidity, cool and well-ventilated, sealed with a notarial seal, 35 wine samples (the companies have submitted 36 bottles per type) from 23 companies located in various parts of Italy are stored.

Each year, the notary will extract one bottle per type, which will be handed over to the designated committee of experts for tasting and evaluation.

At the end of the five years, remaining bottles will be auctioned off, and the proceeds donated to charity.

Finally, each year awards will be given to figures who have contributed to enhancing the product “wine” in Italy and worldwide.

Purpose and goals of the Project

The purpose of this “Project” is simple! To provide consumers, after the five years of “gestation,” with all the knowledge necessary to guide them in choosing wines, capable of withstanding long-term storage, and hence aiding in making a real investment in a product that over time could surprise with its qualitative, sensory, and value-for-money features.
