Lake Garda Water Levels and Treatment System Amid Rising Concerns
There are significant and serious concerns in recent days regarding the water levels of Italy’s largest lake, Lake Garda, affecting the local population. This situation is constantly monitored by the officials of the Magistrato alle Acque, who regulate the outflow of the Mincio River through the Governalo sluice gates, which in turn affect the small lakes of Mantua.
Pipeline and purification system status
The Consorzio Garda Uno Special Company is also on alert regarding the pipelines of the circumlacustrine system, which collect the wastewater from much of the western shoreline to channel it into the Peschiera wastewater treatment plant.
Of course, given this situation, the collector is also receiving large quantities of water not exclusively from sewage. White water, or nearly, which still reaches the Peschiera treatment center.
“A very challenging situation that requires us to perform daily systematic checks of the entire network,” states Garda Uno president Guido Maruelli. “This allows us to monitor the entire situation minute by minute.”
Plant management and safety
The Peschiera treatment plant, managed by Garda Uno, also receives water collected by another Consorzio, “L’Azienda Gardesana Servizi,” which services the Veronese shoreline of Lake Garda.
There has been no damage to the treatment plant or to the entire collection system’s network. This situation reassures us and bodes well for the upcoming tourist season, aiming to repeat the positive recent years marked by an increasing and constant level of water quality and bathing suitability in Lake Garda, and the awarding of the European Blue Flag to Sirmione this year.
