Malcesine Winemaker Sergio Lombardi Wins Fifth Fragolino Competition
The fifth edition of the Fragolino Competition held this month in Porto di Brenzone was won by Sergio Lombardi from Malcesine with 330 points.
Just two points behind (328), the runner-up was Davide Consolati, also from Malcesine. Third place went to Michele Consolati, with 280 points, again from Malcesine.
The participants, coming from the municipalities of Brenzone, Malcesine, and Torri del Benaco, numbered 14 in total, because the fifteenth withdrew at the last moment.
The seven members of the jury, during the award ceremony, highlighted the good quality of the competing wines, due to favorable weather conditions but also to the skill of the producers.
These producers enjoyed giving a name to their homemade Fragolino wine, so as to allocate the appropriate bottle to each contestant: there was the “Fragolino of the Desperate” or the one called the “Sacrists“.
Comments and Thanks
“We are pleased to note,” say the organizers of the evening, “the participation of some young people. Surely, this competition, mainly meant as a gathering, is an important sign of people returning to tradition and nature.”
Among the organizers, Marino Prandini deserves mention. He is the creator of the contest five years ago and was the star and animating force of the evening, instilling a spirit of camaraderie and joy in everyone present.
“On behalf of all the organizing team, the contestants, and the judges,” the organizers conclude, “a heartfelt thank you to Ruggero Brighenti, owner of the Sorriso hotel in Porto where the competition took place, and to all his staff for their patient hospitality.”
