Limone Prefers Caution Amid Gardesana Blockade Concerns
In Limone, the town that would be most interested in a blockade of the Gardesana, which appears to be very long, the mouths are, for now, sewn shut and the same mayor, Battista Martinelli, prefers to comment with caution. “Better to wait, it’s still too early to speak,” he replies to inquiries.
Then, after some insistence, Martinelli opens up a little, but not too much: “If the matter were really in these terms, that is, talking about closures for this long period, with alternatives related to the use of the ferry or very long trips around the lake or the valleys, I don’t think we would agree very much. You can’t just say it’s closing.”
Next steps and institutional contacts
And now, what will be the next moves? “We will involve our politicians, even if these days are certainly not favorable for this operation, and we will have to wait until early January to have discussions. We will reach out to the President of the Province Alberto Cavalli, and to the Public Works assessor Mauro Parolini. In Region, we will contact Vice President Viviana Beccalossi and assessor Franco Nicoli Cristiani.”
“But these names,” he continues, “may be joined by others. In the meantime, we have contacted Bruno Faustini, President of the Parco Alto Garda Mountain Community.”
Environmental and financial issues
Martinelli then admits that there are two other major problems. The first is raised by the residents of Trento themselves, who have made it very clear that “it would make no sense to invest money in Trentino (the 75 billion for the new gallery) and move the problem a few hundred meters south. The entire area is indeed at geological risk.”
This is an explicit call to also intervene on the Brescia section of the 45 bis. Moreover, Martinelli says, “we cannot handle this anymore. Our politicians need to make an effort, but also the administrators of the other Garda municipalities, because the problem of the potential non-transitability of the road would have negative consequences for everyone, not just for us.”
