The amateur sports association Pallavolo C9 in Riva del Garda organized an evening of evaluation and reflection on the “She Leads: gender equality in sports” project. The initiative, carried out in collaboration with Dr. Alessia Tuselli, a sociologist at the University of Trento, aimed to promote gender equality within society.

Pallavolo C9 is the largest volleyball club in Trentino and has two training groups, one for males and one for females, ranging from under 12 to under 19. This division is also reflected in the league championships, with the first and third division for females, two male series D, and series C for both women and men. In total, there are ten female teams and nine male teams, involving over 200 athletes, which becomes over 400 if mini-volley is considered.

The uniqueness of the club led to the idea of delving into the topics of respect and gender equality, creating a positive and inclusive environment like the gym. Recognizing that violence against women is a problem that affects society as a whole, the management of Pallavolo C9 wondered what they could do to contribute to the necessary cultural change to counteract this dramatic phenomenon.

To address these issues, the club collaborated with Dr. Alessia Tuselli, a sociologist and researcher at the University of Trento, as well as a former volleyball player. Together, they joined the “She Leads” project, promoted by the university’s interdisciplinary gender studies center and coordinated by Tuselli herself. The goal of the project was to promote female leadership in sports, focusing on key concepts such as body shaming, gender equality, and combating discriminatory practices against women.

On Friday, May 10, at the Scipio Sighele auditorium in Riva del Garda, the concluding evening of the “She Leads” project will take place. The event will start at 6:30 pm and will present the results achieved, the feedback collected from the athletes involved in the project, and future perspectives for promoting an inclusive and respectful sports environment.

The evening will be enriched by the presence of special guests and professionals in the field, who will share their experiences and offer insights on the topic. The event is open to all individuals who are sensitive to the issue, not necessarily connected to the world of sports or volleyball.
