Verona and Brescia Partnerships Drive D’Annunzio Airport Growth

Problems raised by the Comune di Verona (an important partner of Catullo) regarding the subdivision of shares in the new D’Annunzio airport management company seem to be resolved, and a decisive Board of Directors meeting of the Verona-based company is not far off. The Camera di Commercio and Provincia di Brescia are the leading partners in this process.

As already confirmed by Franco Bettoni, president of the Camera di Commercio, and Vigilio Bettinsoli, provincial transport councilor, reaching 300,000 passengers in 2001 will not be an unattainable goal.

Business performance and growth projections

The growth rate for Brescia Airport from 1999 to 2000 was over 400%. Considering that Rayanar will add some flights and aims for an annual increase of 20-25%, D’Annunzio can already target, with their contribution alone, over 200,000 passengers within 12 months.

Additionally, the figures will be boosted by the initiatives of both the Roman Goldwing on the Brescia-Rome Fiumicino route and the Brescia-based Brevivet, with its pilgrimages to Lourdes and the Holy Land.

Airlines and services offered

Goldwing is an airline based in Rome, which will replace Air Dolomiti with faster flights to the capital, operating BAE 146 aircraft (also called Jumbino) and Saab 2000 turboprops.

The Brescia-Rome flights will resume on Monday, January 15, after the Christmas break, still with Air Dolomiti until February 5, when Goldwing will take over.

Brevivet will organize some charter flights to Lourdes starting in May and is rescheduling trips to the Holy Land (suspended due to the conflict). From the second half of the year, groups from Montichiari might also start departing for these journeys.

Other airlines such as Avio Ares and Aliven, which use D’Annunzio, are planning their tourist flights (Venezia, Elba, Sardegna, etc.) and taxi flights to European destinations.
