Castiglione Council Reviews Rubber Shredding Plant Permit in Gozzolina
The citizens of Gozzolina need not worry, because we intend to ensure the best possible living conditions in their district. This is the position of the Castiglione Council, articulated by David Beruffi, the environment councilor, who addressed the topic of the permit request to begin operations during the last Monday’s session. The request was submitted by a Brescia-based company seeking to establish a rubber shredding plant in Gozzolina.
Response to the request and verification of conditions
After news of the permit request emerged — following a protest letter from some Gozzolina residents — the council decided to review the case in its latest session. Based on available data, it’s important to clarify that the strongly opposed request from Gozzolina concerns a rubber shredding plant, which does not fall under the category of hazardous or toxic waste materials. The application, submitted to the Municipality of Castiglione in October, must receive favorable opinions from the ASL and the Province of Mantova.
Procedures and decisions of the council
However, the council has decided to conduct further investigations: “We only learned of this application from the municipal offices a few days ago,” said Beruffi. “Therefore, we moved as quickly as possible. We believe this is not a matter to be taken lightly. We also do not wish to express a final opinion before having all the necessary information to grant or deny the permit. The council immediately involved the Province of Mantova and the ASL, from whom we are awaiting responses. We are very attentive to the needs of the Castiglione residents, their health, and the environment,” said Beruffi on behalf of the council. “We will carefully evaluate the situation. Our main goal is to respond to the request without penalizing the applicants, while also carefully considering potential issues for the community and the safety of local agri-food businesses situated in Castiglione and near the Gozzolina district.”
