Gardesana Closure Sparks Emergency Debate Among Garda Community Leaders

“The closure of Gardesana essentially puts the affected territory in a state of emergency, as if facing a natural disaster. And it can be addressed with a dedicated law.” These words were spoken by Giuseppe Mongiello, president of the Comunità del Garda, reported yesterday by Bresciaoggi. They leave Manlio Bonincontri, mayor of Tignale, and Battista Berardinelli, his counterpart in Limone, perplexed. “The proposal – says Martinelli – could be discussed if the road were not reopened, but it is an hypothesis I don’t even want to consider.

Currently, the only thing to do is work towards reopening Gardesana, and to start, the Province and the mountain community need to appoint a geological expert.” Bonincontri shares this view: “It must be clarified how Gardesana could be dangerous and impassable only beyond the border of the Province of Trento, so that it becomes safe again from our side. The issue must be approached seriously and in unity.

After the meeting in Brescia with representatives of the Ulivo party, we have secured an appointment at the end of the month with Minister Nerio Nesi. This is a positive result for everyone. We are sorry that Tignale did not participate in the Prefecture meeting: no one had informed us. Even during the inspection in Limone on January 3rd, only politicians from one party were present. This problem, instead, must be addressed collectively.”
