Patient Faces Six-Month Wait for Routine Eye Exam Amid Healthcare Strains
A routine eye examination? Until June, it’s not even considered; only urgent cases are being accepted.
This was the response given to an user from Arco by the operator at the Centro Unico Prenotazioni of the Azienda Sanitaria Provinciale.
Of course, the woman requested an appointment covered by the public health service, preferably with the specialist who is already treating her and who receives patients weekly at the Riva outpatient clinic, located at the former Incompiuta building on via Rosmini.
The patient’s reaction
She was extremely disappointed to hear that she would have to wait at least six months before she could access the waiting lists, which have been full for weeks now.
She will have to be patient and tolerate the eye problems that have reappeared recently.
Unless she decides to pay out of pocket for a private consultation. That’s what she thought she might do, but then, after some reflection, she felt a surge of rebellion and called the editorial office to inform us of the incident.
The patient’s comment
Adding a comment that no one can disagree with: “Like all taxpayers, I pay taxes that include the contribution for public healthcare services.
Now I need an eye check-up, not urgent, but quite soon, and I have to pay the specialist out of my own pocket.
So I pay twice, and I don’t think that’s fair. There are too few doctors, and they can’t handle the demand in reasonable time? The healthcare agency should hire new staff!”
