Local authorities urged to reopen Gardesana route amid political delays

“Greater decisiveness from local authorities is needed to address the blockage of the Western Gardesana. An immediate intervention to restore the road is urgent, and must precede the construction of a new tunnel.” The opposition council group within the Comunità montana Parco Alto Garda, “Alto Garda Solidale“, raises again the issue of the highway being completely interrupted north of Limone, allowing only intermittent traffic south of the town.

The new leader — Antonio Moro, former mayor of Tignale — supported by vice Alberto Giuntelli of Tremosine, and other members, have presented the group’s perspective while awaiting the meeting next Tuesday at the Ministry of Public Works.

“We have the impression that everything is being done except seeking an immediate solution. Only long-term planning is considered, while current inconveniences for students and workers are ignored, along with health concerns. Not to mention the blow that will hit tourism.”

Reflections on reopening and future actions

“In Rome, we will need to try to reassess the priority of interventions on that Trentino section of road: the immediate reopening of the current Gardesana deserves urgent attention. Only after that can work commence on building the tunnel. However, it’s clear that over time, a definitive solution from Gargnano to Riva will be necessary: achieving this goal will require more than local efforts — it will need support from the State.” Moro and his coalition then shift their focus to the political level.

“Something is unclear: in the recent municipal council meetings in Toscolano, Gargnano, and Tremosine, the Gardesana problem was not on the agenda, nor in the upcoming assembly of the Comunità montana; it seems we are facing either fatalism or political recklessness.”

Criticism of political management and proposed solutions

Any further thoughts? “We need to work toward a solution to the problem, and seek the cooperation of all without ideological barriers: political posturing is useless. We are dissatisfied because Bruno Faustini, president of the Comunità montana, acts alone, convenes mayors in assembly to communicate the outcomes of meetings held elsewhere. He has managed the issue almost as if it were an electoral campaign, and he takes for granted the resignation to a fate that has struck the Gardesana.”

While they dream of unlikely solutions, they postpone the real issue — the reopening — to a later time.
