Access to Blocked Underground Garages Remains Secure Amid Upcoming Safety Checks
Despite pre-event fears, yesterday until the evening hours the two barriers blocking access to the 100 underground garages in the 5 Continents district remained in place.
Many feared that the obstructions, placed on Tuesday at the deadline of the mayor’s ordinance requiring the evacuation of non-compliant garages, would be removed by some residents most opposed to the measure.
However, just as the protest on Tuesday morning during the arrival of municipal workers—escorted by around twenty police officers and Carabinieri amid fears of the worst—was peaceful, there were no reports of particular disturbances yesterday either.
Furthermore, no one requested the removal of cars or mopeds from the closed garages.
Upcoming meetings and intervention requests
Tomorrow, in the meantime, a condominium assembly called by the administrator Annamaria Zuanon will be held, with participation from Mayor Arturo Sigurtà.
In the evening, it is expected to clarify what steps should be taken to bring the garages up to standard, as a report from the Fire Brigade indicates they lack emergency exits, ventilation systems, and electrical installations that meet safety regulations.
