Gardone Riviera Approves Law for Hunting in 12,875 Hectares of State Forests
After Limone, Gargnano, and Toscolano Maderno, Gardone Riviera has also approved the draft law to be presented to the Regione Lombardia for the allocation of 12,875 hectares of park land for hunting purposes. “The area of the western Riviera of the lake and the inland,” explained Mauro Carzeri, municipal councilor, “has the highest percentage of state-owned forest land (38,000 hectares), while the Province of Brescia has the highest concentration of hunters. It is also important to highlight that the areas intended to be made available for fauna and hunting purposes are part of a zone subject to significant environmental constraints, such as the Parco Alto Garda, established by law in September ’89.”
Let’s see the areas to be unlocked: 1,624 hectares on Mount Zingla and Pizzocolo, included in the municipalities of Toscolano Maderno and Vobarno. In Valvestino, 2,115 hectares in the central-western strip, 1,184 in the northern one, and 1,997 to the east. The Tignalga Valley, in the municipality of Tignale, for 805 hectares. In Tremosine: the Negrini Valley (2,564 hectares), Corno della Marogna (8,993), and Corna Vecchia (393). Additionally, 1,200 hectares of “irregular and jagged shape.”
Areas falling within the Natural Park, classified as such in October ’97, are completely excluded. “Almost a thousand hunters are interested in hunting activities in the state-owned areas considered here, currently forced to carry out their activities in nearby, rather concentrated territories. Tensions arise that could easily be alleviated with the approval of this law,” continued Carzeri. “The legislative instrument offered by the Statute of Regione Lombardia, concerning initiatives of popular initiative, appears to be the ideal route to achieve this goal. Moreover, our municipalities have protected area percentages well above the 20% limit imposed by hunting planning.”
“Similar previous legislations are offered by Tuscany, which, from ’94-’95, permitted hunting in state-owned areas, legitimized by a subsequent ruling of the Constitutional Court. A well-founded starting point is also represented by the opinion expressed by the National Institute for Wildlife which, in ’97, deemed suitable and appropriate the perimeter previously agreed upon with institutions and social components.”
Position of the mayor and approval
“The draft law,” said Mayor Alessandro Bazzani, “consists of only two articles. The agro-silvo-pastoral heritage,” emphasizing the first, “is used for fauna and hunting purposes. The second: the Regional Council can amend the current delimitation. Also attached are the cartography, with the layout of the areas.” There was no discussion in Gardone Riviera. The measure passed unanimously. The only abstention was by Laura Volpato.
